Garganuda

Garganuda

Story

Andrea Fiorini Carbognin had his natural wine ‘eureka’ moment when he met Stefano Menti who also happens to be his brother in law. Andrea was keen to run his own wine project and now makes Soave and Valpolicella made from small plots of biodynamically farmed wines. The wines are made in the Menti winery.

Andrea (with the help of Menti) is helping to change the reputation of Soave which has been traditionally known as just a table wine. When grown biodynamically on volcanic soil, the results can be explosive. His Soave for instance is complex, intense and age-worthy.

We’re delighted to be importing Andrea’s brilliant Soave. And the name? Garganuda is a portmanteau of Soave’s grape Garganega and the Italian name for naked which is ‘nuda.’ We think this sums up Andrea’s philosophy nicely.

  • Philosophy
    • Only spontaneous yeasts are used at fermentation with as little intervention in the cellar as possible.
    • Unfined and unfiltered wines.
    • Organic and biodynamic viticulture.
  • The vineyards
    • Small plots of old vineyards that have been converted to biodynamics.
    • Volcanic soils.
    • Flocks of sheep meander their way through the vineyards to control cover crops.
