Story
Juan Carlos Sancha is a legend in Rioja. Not only does he make incredible wines high up in the hills of Baños de Río Tobía in Rioja Alta, he is also a mentor, a professor of oenology and a pioneer of new grape varieties such as Tempranillo Blanco. He is an experimenter, never afraid to try something different.
Which makes him a very exciting winemaker to include in our portfolio.
His wines are made from old vines at high altitude in cool sites, which lend freshness, and focus to the finished bottles. As well as working with the famous Tempranillo and Garnacha, Juan Carlos also makes full use of lesser known varieties such as Tempranillo Blanco, Maturana Tinta, Maturana Blanca (all three of which were either discovered or brought back to life from extinction by him and his colleagues).
We’re delighted to be importing some of his best wines.
