Nestled in the hills of north-eastern Italy lies Friuli, a region famous for producing some of the best quality white wines. Producers here tend to be small and artisan, quietly creating beautiful white wines that run from light and zippy to age-worthy styles and some skin contact whites too. The grape varieties here are wide in range, from international grapes like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc to the local Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and Tai. Reds are mainly dominated by the grape variety Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, responsible for refreshing, crunchy styles of red wine.
