Story
Domaine Simonis have been making wines in the tiny village of Amerschwihr in Alsace for more than 300 years.
Seven hectares of incredible vineyards have been under the guide of winemaker Etienne and his wife Katia who have been at the helm since 1996.
Their vineyards have been organic and biodynamic for 20 years and include plots on the famous Grand Cru sites of Kaefferkopf and Marckrain.
The wines are known for being very pure and precise, aged largely in old demi-muids. This is also an estate that isn’t afraid to experiment - expect an orange wine one year, or a still blanc de noirs the next!
- Philosophy
- No chemical products since 2000.
- The estate works with biodynamic practices.
- The vinification is natural with no sulphites added until bottling stage (even then, it’s kept to a minimum).
- The vineyards:
- Clos des Chats where Riesling and Pinot Gris on granitic terraces can be found
- Grand Cru “Kaefferkopf” - Riesling on granite and limestone
- Grand Cru “Mackrein” - Gewurztraminer on clay/limestone marl
