Castilla-y-Leon is a large region that dominates the Northwest of Spain. It’s home to up-and- coming regions such as Toro, Ribera del Duero and Rueda.
Tempranillo reigns supreme and in this region, expect big, bold, herbal style reds from the grape, some with an incredible capacity for ageing. Whites tend to be zesty and fresh in style - the local grape variety Verdejo rules much of Castilla-y-Leon’s white winemaking.
Thanks to the dry, warm climate, there is enormous potential for organic, biodynamic and natural wines in Castilla-y-Leon. Many winemakers are already seeing the potential in converting to sustainable winemaking practices. The result is plenty of interesting yet people-pleasing wines that are just at home on a dinner table as they are at a party.
