Joan de la Casa - Nimi Gerra 2019 Bio, Alicante

This incredible orange wine is made with 100% organic Moscatel grapes that are macerated on skins for 6 months in amphora giving it an orange hue. The vines are old - around 40-60 years of age - which lends concentration to the final bottling. The flavours are bold - think bergamot, elderflower and lemon. Nimi Gerra has no added sulphites and is vegan friendly.

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE This has a strong Moscatel nose with intense flavours of elderflower, lemon and bergamot. There is also some fruit in there, particularly melon and green apple.
STRUCTURE Tannins are present thanks to the short time this wine spends on skins. There are plenty of aromatics (particularly bergamot) and lots of power to the structure. This is a wine that can age (another two years in bottle would be perfect), but we also say it’s great now too!
PAIRING This is a summer wine. Drink it with raw fish with citrus seasoning.
